Do I have the right to take my car to the shop of my choice?
Yes. Keep in mind, you are the owner of the car and only you can determine the place of repairs. Be certain the shop of your choice is licensed and bonded with the State of Utah of your protection. Many times the insurance companies preferred shop is granting some kind of concession to the insurance company.
Must I obtain three estimates?
- No one can tell you to obtain more than one. It could be to your advantage to check out more than one shop, but do it for your reasons. Reputation, Warranty, Facility, Training, etc.
The Insurance Company wants me to use a “phone App” and take pictures for them to write the bid with, what is that about?
Phone apps are the Insurance companies way to cut staff and save cost. They will have you take 3 images. 3 images will allow them to just see enough to create a basic estimate. It will not be enough information for ANYONE to thoroughly evaluate the damage to your car. We see these bids from a“phone app” be LESS than half of the true repair costs!
Bring us your Phone app bids and we can work with them to re-evaluate the bid. Remember they have to put your car in pre-loss condition.
What is the best procedure for me to get quality repair s and quickly get my car back on the road?
Take your car to the shop of your choice. Work with the body shop Estimators. Instruct them to contact your insurance company and advise them as to the damage. You also have the responsibility to notify your insurance representative and advise hom of the cars location and facts of the accident.
I was not a fault in the auto accident. Can the insurance company tell me where to take my car for repairs?
We can’t overstate this it’s your car and your choice! If the other parties insurance company has accepted liability you would be entitled to a rental car while yours is in the shop. And you will not have to pay any deductible. One other thing, the person who hit you has a contract with their company to pay for your repairs. If that insurance company does not provide funds for the needed repairs, they could be in breach of contract with their insured. The party who hit you is responsible to pay the bill if the Insurance company does not.
Is the repair facility responsible for the repairs performed on my car?
YES. The repair facility is responsible to you for proper car and repair.
Who Is responsible for the safety, workmanship and guarantee on my automobile repair?
The shop. The Insurance Company is responsible to FUND the repairs, and the shop is responsible to perform the work.
Who is responsible to pay the shop for the repair bill – the insurance company or me?
You are. The contract with your insurance company will pay the damages to your car less the deductible amount. The payment must be in the hands of the repair shop when you pick up your car.
If the other parties insurance has accepted liability then they technically owe you so you can pay the shop. Remember there is no contract between you and the other parties insurance company.
Don’t be afraid to contact the state insurance commissioner’s office if you have not been made whole or have not been reimbursed in full. Or speak to an attorney.
Can the insurance company and the shop start repairs on my car without my consent?
Not legally. You need to know what is being repaired on your vehicle. Make sure you understand and ask about any repair questions you might have, such as the type of parts being used and any repair procedures you want to understand.
