Maintenance   

While we do not rebuild transmissions we do service automatic transmission fluids and filters.  On your manual transmissions we also replace or exchange fluids and replace clutches and shifters.

Transmission Services

Transmissions are often one of the most neglected components on a motor vehicle. Two important types of transmission service include:

• Transmission pan removal and filter replacement
• Transmission fluid exchange

 Transmission filter replacement consists of the removal of the transmission pan and the replacement of the filter.  The fluid is only partially replaced as only the fluid in the pan can be removed.  The drawback of this service is that old fluid and the deposits inside the transmissions passages are not addressed in this procedure.

Transmission fluid exchange consists of exchanging all of the fluid in the transmission with new, fresh fluid.  The drawback is that the filter is not replaced.    However the transmission fluid can be exchanged after the filter has been replaced.

Layton Carcare’s Utah Automatic Transmission Service Recommendations

At 30,000 mile increments we recommend that the two procedures be alternated.  First, we might remove the pan and replace the filter, topping off the transmission with fresh fluid. Then after 30,000 more miles we would perform a total fluid exchange with the BG cleaners and additives.
